What to Pack for a Summer Picnic

What to Pack for a Summer Picnic

Summer is finally here! As everyone turns their eyes longingly toward surf, sand, and sundaes, a favorite way to spend quality time outdoors is a summer picnic.

With a little careful planning, a picnic can also be one of the safest ways to enjoy outside without getting too close to others during this Coronavirus craziness. Whether that means hunting for a cool spot off the beaten trail or having a picnic in your own backyard, grab your basket, your blanket, and pack these essential items for an amazing summer picnic.

Time to Eat

It’s no fun to juggle complicated recipes, bread knives, three different forks, and curious ants under a baking hot sun, so pack food that’s easy to prep and unlikely to melt.

Seasonal fruits and vegetables like berries, watermelon slices, carrot sticks, and cherry tomatoes make a delicious addition to any picnic. Use eco-friendly reusable storage bags to keep them tasting fresh, not to mention to make clean-up or stacking them in a cooler easier.

Finger foods like chips, dips, crackers, cheeses, and sandwiches will help round out the spread (just don’t forget napkins!). Meanwhile, for items that are trickier to cram into a traditional picnic basket—but who doesn’t want an entire baguette and a bottle of rosé?—waterproof grocery bags provide a stylish, durable mode of transportation.

Staying Cool

While you’re nibbling on strawberries, you want to make sure you don’t end up looking like one. Pack trendy sunglasses and sunscreen to protect from the heat and the glare of the sun. In summer, staying cool is looking cool.

If you can’t find that perfect patch of shade, make your own with a broad-brimmed sun hat, preferably one with built-in UV protection. If your hat is moisture-wicking and waterproof as well, even better. It’ll help you stay feeling refreshed and relaxed rather than sweaty and soaked.

Having Fun

Finally, pack whatever you need to make the outing fun for everyone involved. If you’re going with a group or your family, card decks, board games, Frisbees, and inflatable balls all provide inexpensive amusements.

If you’re picnicking by the water, you don’t just have to watch kids having fun. Inflatables like our floating hammocks offer a relaxing way for anyone to love the pool or lake, even if you’re not a strong swimmer. Enjoy drifting around and dozing off blissfully between the cool water and the warm sun.

With the right preparation, picnics can be the highlight of your summer. So start packing!
